Maxine January 2012

Happy New Year, everybody! Can you believe that this is my 20th edition of Maxine's Corner?! What do we call it? "Wringtime" or "Sprinter"? You know…that time between the two main fashion seasons, when you need to sell the upcoming season's styles NOW! Well here are a few tips that the pros suggest. "Forecast" to your customers (just like the weatherman). Inform your clients what's "hot and new". Peak their interest with the styles, trends and colors of the coming season and work for those preorders. An important component to selling spring styles now is INFO...be your customer's 'informant' for details from the top fashion designer's runways. Guide your customer's choices with your knowledge of fashion and your familiarity with their taste. Suggest something as simple and sweet as the look of a spring strapless dress under a cardigan or v neck sweater pullover...the dress becomes a skirt and you have the comfort and style of "Wringtime"! Add a pair of tights for those even colder climates. Introduce to your customers the idea that designers are adapting a new thought around design...they call it "seasonless dressing". It describes a trend of wearing similar styles year round. Mainly due to the fact that people are spending increased time in climate controlled environments, thus promoting less demand for heavy winter clothing. And therefore spring/summer clothing could become acceptable as year round dressing. Nudging that idea out there could definitely get Spring sprung! A perfect example is wearing white year round. Many top designers had white in their Fall lines, making it even easier to shift from winter to spring. Encourage your clients to pick up some white or cream-colored pieces for a perfect transitional look. Let's knock this year’s spring numbers right out the park! Remember it works better when we work together.... Maxine Maxine Allen is a fashion model, writer and spokesperson in Dallas.
